Black Dog

This historic cabin restoration brought new life and clean lines to this creek side family retreat. After much consideration, if felt right to utilize the original stacked log structure of the ranch as the core of the new home. This intimate 2-bedroom cabin allows guests to unplug with ease and luxurious accommodations in this remote high valley setting. While designed to reinforce the original cabin’s rustic charm, contemporary amenities abound.

Custom millwork integrates throughout the gracious entry, mudroom, baths, wardrobe closets, dining banquet, and walk-in pantry. Modernists at heart, the clients enjoy the juxtaposition of warm rustic textures with a ‘less is more mindset’ towards detailing. Cowboys and city slickers alike feel right at home here.

“Matt and his team helped us completely reimagine the dwelling, while dealing with numerous limitations.

Projects like ours will inevitably encounter challenges as work progresses.  MB Architects worked through them in marvelous cooperation with our contractor, making solid but subtle adjustments along the way that made the final product even more spectacular.

In the end, they delivered a thoroughly modern western home that is almost inconceivable in beauty and functionality.  Most importantly, they never lost sight of the fact that it was our home and not theirs — a trait not common in many architectural firms. It is simply the perfect house for us.”
