Salt River

In classic western vernacular, the three main structures circle like wagons on the edge of a broad plateau above the river valley. On approach, the main stacked log cabin stands in homage to generations prior. Two larger barn structures flank the main house, veiling the landscape beyond: one, the horse barn, and the other, a loft guest house over the garage. The welcoming entry porch doubles as a covered boardwalk providing effortless flow between the two residences year-round.

Upon entry, the main cabin presents an awe-inspiring landscape that can make anyone feel small. Hints of contemporary detailing carefully refine the traditional log structure and reinforce its rustic authenticity. The property was master planned and designed to support a self-sustaining western agricultural lifestyle. In addition to its owners, the property is home to a barnyard of goats, pigs, horses, orchards, and a walipini greenhouse.

“We contracted MB Architects for the design of our forever home and are so pleased with the finished product. We would not hesitate to recommend Matt and his team for anyone seeking custom architectural services.

Providing only a rough idea of what we were after, he came back with plans for our dream home that exceeded all of our wants. The design incorporates a log cabin main house with a detached garage with guest quarters above.

Each building was constructed at different levels of finish but the design ties them together flawlessly. They took the time to understand how our home needed to function while at the same time working within our budget. The end result is magnificent, and we look forward to many years in this beautiful place.”
